Beauty from ashes

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a] 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. – Isaiah 61: 1-3

“To love anothe…

“To love another person is to see the face of God.”

― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

This guy’s walk…

This guy’s walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can’t get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, ‘Hey you. Can you help me out?’ The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, ‘Father, I’m down in this hole can you help me out?’ The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

Then a friend walks by, ‘Hey, Joe, it’s me can you help me out?’ And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, ‘Are you stupid? Now we’re both down here.’ The friend says, ‘Yeah, but I’ve been down here before and I know the way out.’

“People do not …

“People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord.

We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance;

we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom;

we drift toward superstition and call it faith.

We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation;

we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into
thinking we have escaped legalism;

we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated.”

-DA Carson

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Darkness cannot…

Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

Proverbs 30: 7-9

Two things I ask of you;
deny them not to me before I die:
Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with the food that is needful for me,
lest I be full and deny you
and say, “Who is the LORD?”
or lest I be poor and steal
and profane the name of my God.

(Proverbs 30:7-9 ESV)

Truly something that has been tugging at my heart for awhile. Please don’t give me too much Lord that I will forget you and that I will be content with the worldly things (in my case- architecture). That’s still one thing I have scared of, that I will become too happy, too content, that I will lose sight of you Lord. Sometimes, it is true that I get so excited/passionate about architecture/design. I don’t doubt that it is definitely a gift that God has bestowed upon me, but at the same time, this gift could become the death of me. So I have to be definitely careful and be mindful.

Listening to this song has been good to mediate on Him. An oldie but such a good song still. The power of this song me chills.

‎”The Bible has…

‎”The Bible has no comfort whatsoever to give to people who are not Christians – none at all; indeed the exact opposite. The Bible has nothing to say to such people except to warn them to flee from the wrath to come. It tells them that the sufferings of this present hour are not worthy to be compared with the sufferings they are going to endure, that these are but a foretaste of what is coming to them, that the account of the Flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all similar calamities are but faint pictures of the suffering that is going to come to those who do not belong to the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no comfort here for an unbeliever – none at all.” -Martyn Lloyd-Jones (Romans – The Perseverance Of The Saints)

Happy birthday

Happy birthday to the strongest woman I know. Although I am a daughter that lacks in many ways, she is so forgiving and loving towards me even when I don’t deserve it at all. I have heard my mother’s life story and it is one of the saddest I’ve ever heard. She’s been through things that no one should ever go through- just one of the many reasons why she is the strongest person I know and my role model. I love you ♥

Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.
